Favorite Paved Trails
Atkinson Trail – This short 3.1 mile-long trail follows the Roaring Fork River from the 27th Street Bridge near Rivers Restaurant to the Glenwood Park neighborhood. Except for inclines at both ends of the trail, the flat grade makes this a popular ride for families with young children.
Glenwood Canyon Recreation Trail – One of Glenwood’s most scenic cycling trails, the Glenwood Canyon Recreation Trail follows the Colorado River for 16 miles through Glenwood Canyon. It is punctuated with rest areas at No Name, Grizzly Creek, Hanging Lake and Bair Ranch. This trail is popular with riders of all ages and abilities, from serious road biking enthusiasts to casual riders.
Rio Grande Trail – A rails-to-trails project, the Rio Grande Trail meanders through the Roaring Fork Valley for 42-miles and gains a little over 2000 feet between the towns of Glenwood Springs and Aspen. The mild incline makes for a pleasant ride in both directions. Many cyclists choose to do portions of the trail, from Glenwood Springs to Carbondale or Basalt, for example. Still others prefer to ride the entire length downhill, all the way from Aspen to Glenwood.
Sunlight's Babish Gulch Mountain Bike Trails
Babbish Gulch – During the summer months the Nordic trails at Sunlight Mountain Resort become a destination for mountain bikers. Over sixteen miles of marked trails wander through a woodland landscape that features aspen groves, wildflower meadows and stream crossings.
