Locals Youth Programs

Sunlight Ski School has ski and snowboard instructors that take pride in building your confidence and skill as a skier or snowboarder.  Our guest-centered teaching is the core of our program and our lessons cater to your individual needs.  Many of our instructors are PSIA/AASI certified and have many years of teaching experience.  If you have questions about lessons or would like to chat about skiing, our Ski School Director, Joe Sims is here to help.  He can be reached at 970.945.7491 or at 1.800.445.7931.

First time skiers and snowboarders who take a lesson will be able to navigate beginner terrain by the end of their first day. The Three Day Package enables you to develop life-long skills and independence on the mountain. If you are a more experienced skier or boarder, Sunlight Ski School offers a full range of exciting options. Take your sport to the next level and learn the secrets of the mountain with your instructor.

Learn to Shine

This is our most popular learn to ski program.  Skiers and boarders that take at least 3 lessons are more likely to enjoy the sport and to keep skiing and boarding for years to come.   You'll be matched with one of our top-notched instuctors that will make their experience at Sunlight Mountain Resort one to remember.  The 3 lessons can be taken on the dates of your choice and you'll get a free 5-Day ski pass to practice whenever you would like. 

Three day program:  Includes 3 days of lift tickets, 2-hour lessons, and rentals.

At the completion of the program, you will receive a FREE 5-day pass for the 2010-2011 season!

Snow Riders Club (Ages 7-12) 

These are full day Saturday Sessions from 9:45am-2:45pm lasting 4 weeks.

First Session- January 8, 15, 22, 29

Second Session- February 5, 12, 26 and March 5

Ridge Runners (Ages 7-12)

These are 1/2 day Sunday Sessions from 1pm-3:30pm lasting 5 weeks.

First Session- January 2, 9, 16, 23, 30

Second Session- February 6, 13, 20, 27 and March 6

All level skiers/riders are welcome all days. Registration deadline is seven days prior to session start date.  No makeup classes will be offered. No class on President’s Day weekend.  No refunds if classes are not attended.  Parents’ lift tickets are available for $35 the day of class for Ridge Runners ONLY.

Sunlight Kid’s Camp (Ages 4-12)

December 20- December 23, 2010 
 
Sunlight will host a kids camp for skiers ages 12 and under and snowboarders ages 7-12 on December 20th through the 23rd. (Monday-Thursday) We want to give your kids the opportunity to ski or board with one of our instructors while you’re at work. The dates above correspond with Winter Break.

Groups will be determined by age and ability. This program is for kids 4 to 12 years old. Classes begin at 10AM and end at 3PM. Lunch is a sack lunch with sandwich, drink and chips.

Are you interested in giving your young skier or snowboarder an adventure in alpine ski or snowboard competition? Consider SWSC’s Buddy Werner Race or Freestyle programs or Ski Team competitive program. Designed for skiers aged 6 to 15 years old, these programs develop snow skills in a fun, kid-oriented program tailored to give children a healthy experience in alpine or freestyle competition.

Buddy Werner Program - Participants meet in small groups with a volunteer adult coach on Saturdays, January through March. Skiers are instructed in the basics of ski racing and team participation with an emphasis on learning slalom, giant slalom, and super giant slalom under close supervision by experienced coaches and parents who are accomplished skiers. There are 4 races held at Sunlight Mountain Resort throughout the year and a Finale at the end of the season at a Colorado resort TBD. SWSC's Snowboarding Program is a part of our Buddy Werner program. Boarders train and race according to the Buddy Werner schedule, receiving instruction and race experience in Alpine snowboard racing divisions in Slalom, Giant Slalom, and Super Giant Slalom.

FreestyleTeamProgram – Skiers and snowboarders who enjoy hitting the park and half-pipe will love our Freestyle program. Youth aged 8 through 16 participate and train on Sunlight Mountain Resort’s Terrain Park and table top jumps. Enjoy being coached by experienced freestyle coach Austin Hadley. Competitors meet Saturday, Sunday and participate in after school Trampoline sessions once a week.

Ski TeamProgram- SWSC's J5-J4-J3 programs emphasize and refine racing skills in an atmosphere that prepares racers ages 8 to 13 for competitive alpine ski racing. Participants train both Saturday and Sunday and may participate in after school training (academics permitting) on Tuesday and Thursday. Your child undergoes a regime of training overseen by a staff of highly-skilled, certified coaches who are experienced in teaching alpine ski racing. Emphasis is on development of slalom and giant slalom skills. Travel is required to participate in USSA races across the state as well as several Valley Series races in Aspen. USSA license required.
