Sunlight Mountain Resort isoperates with a special use permit from the USDA Forest Service, White River National Forest. Sunlight Mountain Resort is an equal opportunity service provider and employer.

ADA Power-Driven Mobility Devices Policy:

Sunlight Mountain Resort, in conjunction with the White River National Forest, established a public access policy precluding motorized equipment on slopes and trails within the established boundaries of the special use permit granted for public skiing access. This policy also extends to lands owned or managed by Sunlight Mountain Resort. The policy precluding motorized equipment remains in effect. The public access policy for Sunlight Mountain Resort was established to prevent serious harm to the environment and the natural resources. Due to the need to address soil integrity, erosion and vegetation concerns, the Ski Area has adopted a “no motorized” policy for the public during the summer season.

Due to concerns with actual safety practices during the winter season, Sunlight Mountain Resort has determined that the use of any power-driven devices or vehicles by the public, including power-driven mobility devices used by individuals with mobility disabilities, would conflict with our safety requirements necessary for the reasonably safe operation of our on-slope activities. These safety concerns include the use of devices on the slopes that expose the user and skiers/snowboarders to a safety hazard such as collisions with downhill skiers and snowboarders. These safety concerns are based on actual risks and are not intended to be discriminatory in any way. ADA parking is available in designated and signed areas and a visible permit is required.

Sunlight Mountain Resort allows individuals with mobility disabilities to use power driven mobility devices, wheelchairs and manually-powered mobility aids such as walkers, crutches, canes, braces or other similar devices designed for use by individuals with mobility disabilities in areas open to pedestrian use. Access to the on-mountain facilities will only be allowed with the use of approved adaptive devices. Adaptive devices are any specialized equipment that have been designed and manufactured primarily for the use by individuals who have disabilities, including mono-skis, bi-skis, outriggers and sit-skis. Equipment that does not meet the definition of “adaptive” design (such as Snow-Bikes) is not permitted on the ski area by any members of the public, including individuals who have mobility disabilities. Sunlight’s adaptive ski program offers or will arrange for adaptive equipment that meets this definition, when requested in advance by individuals wanting to enjoy winter sports at our resort.

Uphill Travel

All guests traveling uphill by skis, snowshoes, split boards or other devices must have an Uphill Pass. Single Day Uphill Passes are available at Guest Services from 8:30am to 3:00pm. Uphill Season Passes are available for purchase at SunlightMTN.com under Buy Passes menu. All travelers must stay on the designated routes. Please choose either the Green Route (easiest) or Orange Route (more difficult).

Fat Tire Bike Policy

Sunlight Mountain Resort recognizes the growing popularity of “fat tire” biking during the winter and is instituting a limited access policy to allow this activity.

We allow this activity under the following conditions:

  1. Access will be limited to night time hours from 6pm until 3am. All bikes must be off of the area prior to morning grooming operations.
  2. The only authorized routes are as follows:
    1. The ascending route will be up the Babbish Gulch trail system to the top of the mountain.
    2. The descending route will be down the Ute ski run to the base area.
  3. All “Fat Tire Bike” riders must possess a Sunlight Uphill Pass. Riders that do not currently have an Uphill Pass must obtain one online or from the Sunlight ticket office. The Uphill Pass is free for current Sunlight Season Pass Holders. For riders without a season pass, a fee of $10 will be charged.

No Dogs Policy

For the safety of our guests and their pets, Sunlight Mountain Resort prohibits guests and employees from bringing dogs onto the ski area and/or base lodge facilities at any time during the winter operating season. Exceptions to this policy are for: 1) Service animals as defined in the ADA regulations, 2) Trained or in training search and rescue/avalanche dogs accompanied by their handler and 3) Dogs brought to the base area by an organization for a specific special event, such as C.A.R.E. pet adoption day. Dogs permitted at the area must be on a harness, leash or other tether and accompanied by a handler, who is wholly responsible for the animal. For safety reasons, dogs, including service animals, are not allowed on Sunlight’s ski terrain or ski lifts unless they are trained or in the process of being trained for search and rescue work or to load/unload a lift and these dogs must be in the direct control of on-duty Sunlight Mountain Resort staff. These safety concerns are based on actual risks and are not intended to be discriminatory in any way. Reasonable accommodation will be made to assist in transporting service dogs in order to access other resort locations with a minimum of 48 hours notice. Service animals are defined as animals that have been individually trained to actively assist individuals with physical or cognitive needs. Individuals with service animals, of course must maintain control of their animals at all times. In addition, any service animal must be house broken and be trained and utilized for a specific disability approved by ADA regulations

Sledding and Sledding Devices

To ensure the safety of our guests and staff, sledding and the use of sledding devices are not allowed anywhere on Sunlight Mountain Resort.

Marijuana Policy

Colorado’s Amendment 64 allows persons 21 years of age and older to possess up to one ounce of marijuana; however the law specifically bans the consumption of marijuana in public places. All areas at Sunlight Mountain Resort are considered to be public places; therefore consumption of marijuana is strictly prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to lift lines, chairlifts, ski trails, in the woods, parking lots, patios, decks and any other open spaces. Smoking, whether it is tobacco or marijuana, is prohibited inside buildings, lobbies, restaurant, shops, hallways or restrooms.

Unmanned Aerial System (Drone) Policy

Due to safety and privacy concerns, Sunlight Mountain Resort (Resort) prohibits the operation or use on or above Resort property of unmanned aerial systems, or drones, by the general public—including model aircraft by recreational users and hobbyists—without the prior written authorization from Sunlight Mountain Resort. This prohibition includes drones used for filming or videotaping, as well as any drone use by media or journalists operating above or within the area boundaries. This prohibition extends to any devices launched or operated from Resort property, including National Forest Service (NFS) lands within Sunlight’s special use permit (SUP) boundaries, as well as any launched from private property outside of the Resort boundaries. Any authorized operation of drones on or above Resort property will be governed by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules and regulations, local law enforcement, and / or National Forest Service rules, as well as those policies separately established by this Resort, which may include certification, training, insurance coverage, indemnification requirements, and waivers or releases of liability. Any violation of this policy may involve suspension of your access privileges to the Resort, or the revocation of your season pass, as well as confiscation of any prohibited equipment, and may subject violators to any liability for damages, including, but not limited to, damages for trespass, violations of privacy, and physical injuries to persons and/or property, as well as legal fees.
